Here are a few of the exciting things happening at the JCC this month...

Poolside social mixer* Join us for the JCC's first-ever Social Mixer By the Pool on Thursday, July 22nd from 6:30-9:00pm. Meet fellow JCC members while relaxing poolside to the sweet sounds of virtuoso guitarist Don Balistreri. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Adults only please. This event is FREE for members and non-members.

* Dance the night away at our monthly Ballroom Dance Party on Thursday, July 15th from 7:30-10:00pm. Our first dance party last month was a big success and we're looking forward to seeing even more dancers this month! Tickets are $20 in advance at the JCC Service Desk, or $25 at the door. * The next Introduction to Judaism crash course starts July 13th. Learn the basics about Jewish history, ethics, holidays, life cycle events, and major texts in just 5 weeks! For details, see the class schedule.

* A new art history course, "Art of Ancient China and Japan," begins July 7th. Read more.

Thank you to our blood donors too! The American Red Cross drive at the JCC in June was a great success, with 50 units of blood collected. The next blood drive is October 6th.

Sign up for the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School
Interested in serious adult Jewish learning? Sign up for the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School. Classes meet once a week at the JCC and there's no homework, no exams. Next session starts in October. New this year, we're also offering a special Melton series for parents who are interested in learning how to make Judaism meaningful to their children. Visit Israel with the JCC: A Trip for Active Adults
October 24th-November 5th
You're invited to join the Addison-Penzak JCC on a memorable journey to the Land of Israel this autumn -- hosted by Fagie Rosen. We'll be visiting Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Galilee, Haifa and Tel Aviv. This trip is appropriate for active adults, and JCC membership is not required. Thunder Valley Casino Trip for Seniors
Thursday, July 29th, 8:00am-6:00pm

Recipe Contest at the Cafe
Enter to win a week of free lunches! Submit your favorite vegetarian recipe (dairy and eggs okay) to Schmoozer's Cafe in the JCC's main lobby. Deadline is July 16th. The winner will receive a gift card for free lunch for a week (up to $50 value) and their recipe will be named after the winner and featured on the Schmoozer's menu.

QuickStart Tennis Program
QuickStart Tennis is a fun new way for kids to learn tennis! Kids use specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. QuickStart is divided into two different levels-- ages 8 and under, and ages 10 and under. This is a drop-in program that meets every Saturday from 10:00-10:30am. PJ LibrarySummertime Shabbat Sing Along
Every Friday (through August 13th) at 12:30pm
Toddlers and preschoolers and their families are invited to join us every Friday in the JCC main lobby for a pre-Shabbat sing-along, dancing, storytime, and challah. Free! Want to Make Judaism Meaningful to Your Children?
The JCC's year-long "Foundations of Jewish Family Living" course will show you how. Foundations is a new course offered through the JCC's Melton Adult Mini-School. The curriculum brings to life the master stories from our tradition and the messages they convey. This rich learning experience for adults will provide an opportunity for you to bring the Jewish conversation home to share with your young child. At a time in your family's life when your child is beginning his or her own Jewish education, Foundations of Jewish Family Living offers you the learning, the language, and the confidence to be a teacher to your own children. Class runs November 9th, 2010 through May 10th, 2011 and meets every Tuesday from 9:00-10:30am. Cost is $325 for JCC members, $400 for non-members. San Jose Giants - Jewish Appreciation Day
Enjoy America's favorite pastime at the San Jose Giants minor league baseball game. Sunday, July 25th is Jewish Appreciation Day at the Giants! Game starts at 5:00pm at the Giants ballpark in San Jose. For details, see www.jewishgiants.com.



Circus and Theater Camp Performances
July 2nd, July 16th, and July 30th at 2:00pm
JCC Circus ShowEveryone is invited to see our ever-exciting annual summer performances of "Cirque du Shalom" where the JCC's circus camp kids put on a show that will dazzle you! In July we have two shows, on Friday, July 2nd on Friday, July 16th. Then, on Friday, July 30th, join us as our theater camp kids perform musical numbers from a variety of Broadway hits for your enjoyment! All performances are free, start at 2:00pm, last about an hour, and are in the APJCC Auditorium. If your kids think these programs look like fun, check out our circus and gymnastics classes this fall. Details are coming soon on the JCC website, or contact Andrew Mendes, JCC Youth Director, at andrew@svjcc.org.


Soccer News
The JCC's Pacific Soccer Academy team, Los Gatos Storm, is competing to qualify for the 2010 US Open Cup. This is the oldest and most prestigious soccer tournament in the United States. Yasher koach (congratulations/be strong) to the team members! Dance Classes for the Fall

Lost and Found
 
Did you lose something? With summer camp in full swing, our lost and founds are doing a booming business. There are several lost and founds at the JCC. Here's a list to help you find your items:

  • The main Lost & Found - At the Service Desk in the main lobby. Items left for a long time are transferred to a special storage room. See the Service Desk for details.
  • Summer Camp Lost & Found - In the Teen Lounge on the 2nd floor, next to the camp office. The preschool camp also has its own lost and found basket in the preschool lobby.
  • Swimming Pool Lost & Found - You'll find bathing suits, goggles and more in a bin at the aquatics office by the pool.
  • Valuable items Lost & Found - If you lose something expensive, like a smartphone, we lock it up in the office of the fitness center manager, in Fitness Room A.
